Married Couples Ministry

This ministry is designed to help married couples maximize their marital relationships by understanding themselves, their spouses and the God who brought them together.  Methods and strategies for parenting may also be emphasized within this ministry.  Periodic classes and occasional seminars are given to meet this need.

Couples ROCK Night class is held each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the OLM. We are studying the book ENOUGH, Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity, by Adam Hamilton.

Sunday Church School is held each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Sanctuary

Couples may stop by the bookstore and borrow the following VHS tapes:
A Biblical Portrait of Marriage, Walk Thru The Bible and The Five Love Languages How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate, by Gary Chapman.

Marriage EnRICHment -  Are we applying what we've learned?

For those who attended the Marriage EnRICHment Week, let's not forget the valuable tools we received to enrich our marriages. We have wasted our time by attending if we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in applying the Biblical Principles to our marriage.  No deposit, no return!

  1. Submitting
    • The wife is to submit herself to her husband
    • The wife is to submit with a gentle and quiet spirit.
    • The wife is to submit with joy as the Church does to Christ

  2. Leader
    • Husbands are the priest, protector, provider, physician, and scout of the home.
    • Wrong behaviors are passivity, abuse, and absence in the home.

  3. Sex
    • Sexual needs are to be met within your marriage.
    • God warns of satanic sexual temptation if sex is denied.

  4. Money
    • Trust God rather than security.
    • Store your riches in heaven.
    • Be content with food and clothing.

  5. Leaving
    • A husband and wife shall leave parents and become one flesh
    • Leave Physically
    • Leave Financially
    • Leave Emotionally

The following VHS tapes (DVD is not available) are available to check out through the CE Office at 432-3810 or ced@glrockbc.org
  • The Five Love Languages- How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate by Gary Chapman
A Biblical Portrait of Marriage- Walk Thru the Bible

Books for both series are available for purchase in the bookstore.

According to Gary Chapman, your emotional love language and the language of your spouse may be as different as Chinese from English. No matter how hard you try to express love in “English”, if your spouse understands only “Chinese”, you will never understand how to love each other.

Love is something you do for someone else, not something you do for yourself.  We discover the primary love language of our spouse, and we choose to speak it whether or not it is natural for us. You might not love the language itself, but speaking it will clearly communicate love to your spouse.

Q. How can I learn to forgive my spouse even when there is no apology?

Choose to forgive – Jeremiah 33:1-9

Let Jesus help you tear down walls of discord. Ephesians 2:14-18

Remember your feelings matter to God. I Peter 3:8-15

Q. What’s essential for a healthy, rewarding sex life?

Recognize sex as a gift from God. Gen 1:27-31

Use passionate words. Song of Solomon 5:10-16

Keep practicing. Keep talking. I Corinthians 7:1-5

Q. How can my spouse and I grow spiritually as a couple?

Learn to grow deeper. Hebrews 5:11-6:3

Enjoy and use your God-given differences. I Peter 4:8-11

Support each other as you grow together. Galatians 6:1-3
